Welcome to Protein & Proposals!

Fitness enthusiasts, health nuts, brides-to-be, grooms and everyone in between...WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

My name is Megan and I’m an accountant by day, weightlifter and wedding planner by night! My Protein & Proposals blog will aim to marry (...get it??) the topics of wedding planning and fitness. I will be showering you with tips on how you and your partner can achieve a healthier lifestyle during engagement, at your wedding, and how to maintain them through all the magical moments of married life after.

"My Protein & Proposals blog will aim to marry the topics of wedding planning and fitness."

I grew up in beautiful San Diego, CA with a love of food and a passion for baking (thanks, Mom!). I mean really….who doesn’t have a love of food...am I right?? But I had a LOVE of food. My favorite TV channel at the time? Food Network. Favorite book? Bon Appetit magazine. Favorite celebrity? Bobby Flay. I couldn’t get enough of the beauty of a plate of food and the intricate science behind baking. So as my collection of cookbooks grew larger and larger, I started planning when and where I could test out the new recipes I saved. The planning looked a little like this:

  • Cinco de Mayo - Cookies shaped like tacos with candy “toppings” to bring to my work party

  • 4th of July - Cake shaped like a pineapple for my family’s backyard summer BBQ

  • Halloween - Hand painted fondant zombie cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting for my Halloween party

  • Thanksgiving - Roast turkey with maple-mustard glaze, brussel sprouts with balsamic honey, smashed potatoes with garlic oil and buttermilk pumpkin pie to bring to my parents’ dinner

  • Christmas - Gingerbread, cranberry orange, chewy ginger and white chocolate peppermint drops for my office holiday cookie exchange

Basically, my brain was wired around food and on thoughts about which of my lucky friends I could force into tasting a recipe I was dying to try from my latest cookbook. Over the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to take a cake decorating class, make a wedding cake for a friend (WOW that was fun…and also a lot of work) and continue hosting party after party at my home.

Then once I hit my twenties, flip the book completely over...and I found WEIGHTS in my gym. Did you know those were there? Like the whole time? They’re in the back, alllll the way past the cardio machines and group classes I used to cling to the few times a week I would actually get myself to the gym. Before the fateful day my best friend finally dragged me to the weights section, I would practically paste myself to the walls of my gym, slowly inching along as inconspicuously as possible until I spotted an empty treadmill or made it to the doors of the group class room. Then I’d walk or dance around for about an hour, and GTFO.

Even just glancing over at the weights section and seeing those grunting, huge, sweaty men would send me home screaming…(OK I’m exaggerating a bit..but COME ON it’s for dramatic effect!)

On a serious note, Alexa saved my life (that’s my best friend, btw…) She was a new personal trainer and class instructor at my gym who I’d become fast friends with a few years before. She showed me around the machines at my gym and taught me how to use them. With that, I gained confidence and that confidence never stopped growing. Now, I ONLY go to the gym to lift weights...AND my goal? To lift heavier than the boys.

To explain the title of this blog, this is obviously where the PROTEIN piece comes in. In case you didn’t know, protein is a HUGE part of weightlifting and getting you to your fitness goals. It is the main focus in each diet plan I create for my fitness clients and is a crucial part of my own diet.

And for the other piece... the PROPOSAL! Yes, I am myself a recently engaged bride-to-be and I will craft my own wedding based around the tips I discuss on this blog. I just cannot wait to share them all with you! :) I will make separate blog posts dedicated to my own proposal story, my wonderful fiance, as well as a post going in-depth into protein and diets, so I hope you’ll stick around!

Thanks so much from the bottom of my heart for reading my first blog post. I’m completely open to all comments and suggestions you’ve got for me! Next post coming soon...until then, happy planning and stay fit! <3
